I have a secret to tell you

The value of the teacher is in their intention and action.

People often think of Pilates instructors as models of health. After all, they look great and move with ease. But Pilates instructors are human, just like you. Many of us are dealing with injuries, chronic pain, real life issues and body image issues. I was a big person living a small life. I was suffering from breast implant illness, I had gained 50 pounds, was diagnosed with multiple autoimmune diseases and felt like an 80 year old year in a young persons body. Since explanting in June 2018, my body is slowly returning to health. I do Pilates everyday among other healing modalities. Many of us are perfectionist and will work until we fall over. We want to be everything to everyone and I realized that’s unrealistic. Self care is so important.

My decision to become a Pilates teacher was solidified after I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in my early 20’s. My doctor wanted me to have back surgery and I was desperate to find a way to avoid that. I turned to Pilates for help. And I was amazed. Pilates saved my life, more than once. I also fell in love with it and began teaching it so I could help others. Later I became a certified Rossiter coach. I opened my studio and the rest is history, I opened a boutique Pilates studio in Dallas, 3720 Rawlins street off Oaklawn in between Lemon and Cedar Springs nestled in the neighborhood of Turtle Creek.

My studio offers an advantage over others because many Pilates instructors haven’t faced life changing pain. I want you to know that I know how you feel. I have been in the same shoes. I remember how difficult life was when constantly hurting. I’ve been there and done that. I am your girl to turn this ship around for you and show you what worked for me. There are no easy fixes. But I know what works and what doesn’t.

Having a deep understanding of pain due to my experience, I am the qualified Pilates and Rossiter choice you should choose. There are only two Rossiter coaches in Dallas and I am one of them, I can help you find a solution more quickly. Our clients always appreciate this. I firmly believe that the old quote “The greatest evil is physical pain” is true. That’s why I think the best gift I give my clients is freedom from physical pain. Whenever I see a client have a breakthrough, I can see the change in their face. my heart always skips a beat! This is what keeps me motivated.

I never promise miracles or set unrealistic expectations about finding pain relief. However, I know the power of Pilates combined with Rossiter, movement and consistency. It’s very important to take private Pilates/Rossiter lessons if you have an injury or chronic pain. During a private Pilates/Rossiter lesson your instructor will address specific issues in your body. This will help them get to the root cause much quicker so you will feel better faster. Once addressed we can transition you into a mix of classes (if appropriate) with your continued privates.

As helpful as Pilates/Rossiter is, your instructor is not a doctor. Every person must be cleared by their physician to do Pilates/Rossiter. We cannot medically diagnose what’s going on in your body.

Pilates/Rossiter is perfect for those who are injured or suffer from chronic pain because it is gentle and non-impactful. When describing Pilates three words come to mind: strength, stretch and control. You will practice all of these things in Pilates and learn a whole new way to move your body. It’s in these new movement patterns that the body can begin experiencing healthy movement and hitting your goals.

I work with clients often that are hopeless, taking medications to only feel better. My approach often is less is more and then we come back to it. I never chase pain, We go back to basics and often start all over, That’s ok. We start fresh and go back to the old school techniques that I know work. We will unravel your body and find the source of your pain. We Take out the bad and put in the good then repeat. Sometimes it is a short process getting someone out of chronic pain and sometimes it’s a bit of a journey, On occasion, pain has been there a long time and seeing improvement takes time but trust me it is possible. Rossiter is a two person stretching modality. It’s not taking medication, shots or laser treatment of any kind. It’s putting space back in the fascia and it is 100% natural.

My promise to my clients is to give my all when working with them. I will think outside the box to get them well. If you’re in pain, let’s do what we can do together to get you out of pain and leading a pain free life. Doing the things you love and have the energy to live an authentic pain free life. Getting started is easy, contact our studio.

What would it look like if you could lead a pain free, medication free life and step out of pain? Do I dare say, happy? I’m here to tell you, it’s possible because I’ve done it. Finally be able break up with your expensive doctor that overcharges and under delivers. Live life on your terms, not theirs.

Who Pilates is for, EVERYONE! Who Rossiter for, almost everyone. Rossiter is not for anyone that has had recent blocks in their back to numb the pain. People with pacemakers or has had a major surgery within the last 6 months. Please inquire to see if Rossiter would be a good fit for you.

Sharing my BII story hasn’t always been easy but it’s always been worth it. I want to shout from the rooftop, “Learn from my mistakes, love yourself and don’t implant’. If you or know someone that has experienced any of these symptoms after implanting breast implants, I am happy to talk to you. RA, Hashimoto’s lupus, weight gain that is resistant to come off, brain fog, Joint pain, thinning hair, grey skin, food intolerance, inflammation, ringing in ears, headaches, chronic fatigue syndrome, insomnia, extreme muscle pain, moodiness, change in personality, sensitivity to light, vertigo, slow healing, and heart palpitation. Unfortunately, many plastic surgeons do not believe in breast implant illness but there are many that do! There is hope and there is help. Reach out to me, xo.

One life. One body, make it count.

How Pilates Can Change Your Life

Have you tried a bunch of different exercise routines that have not helped your body? Or worse, have you ever exercised and found that your body felt worse afterwards? If this sounds like you, then I invite you to read on.

Pilates is often thought of as an exercise for toned young women. But Pilates is so more than an exercise routine. Yes, it will get you fit and help you develop long, lean muscles but Pilates will transform more than just your body. It will help transform your life. Pilates gives you the energy and stamina to do all the things you love. If you feel like you aren’t doing everything you want in life, then it is time to try an exercise routine that is right for you. With Pilates, you’ll have the desire to play with your grandkids, flirt with your husband or run that marathon you’ve always wanted to run. The difference between Pilates and other exercise routines is that it was originally created to help those with injuries grow stronger.

Joseph Pilates began rehabilitating detainees and soldiers during the WWI. He saw the opportunity to help soldiers who were still bed bound get a chance to exercise again. He used his unique knowledge of the body and his creative abilities to build the Reformer Pilates machine that we know and love today. So Pilates is meant to rehabilitate anyone’s body, no matter what condition it is in.

Are you tired of being in the Fitness Jungle?

The gym or a class can be a jungle. Have you ever walked into a fitness class and felt overwhelmed and overlooked? I have. I felt like I was just a number once my card was swiped. I was tired of being in a loud room of with twelve plus reformers while an instructor yelled out the next move. She didn’t offer guidance because she dancing to the beat and giving thumbs up and shouts out to her girls. Was I squeezing the right muscles? It’s not like I could stop the class and ask the teacher for personal instruction. Plus, I never felt comfortable sticking around the class to ask. By that time, I felt like I was dying and I just wanted to go home. I felt hopeless and ridiculous. I knew this wasn’t for me. I was in the fitness jungle.

Fitness is important for me. I have found that it helps me mentally and physically. But going to the jungle every day was not helping me. I knew there had to be a better way and I started investigating.

My research led me to Mindful Movement-Pilates studio. It’s a cozy authentic Pilates private studio in the heart of Dallas. It’s nestled between Oaklawn and Lemmon on Rawlins Street. Those are busy streets in the Turtle Creek neighborhood but Mindful Movement is not. It’s an oasis of calm. Plus, it’s across the street from Starbucks and Eatzi’s so after my workout, I can grab a healthy green drink. They also have a private shower and amenities to get ready if I have a meeting after my session,

I signed up for the new client introductory package because I had never done a Reformer Pilates class before. Kylene, the owner and Pilates instructor, teaches a mixture of classical and contemporary Pilates method. I was really intrigued by this because this means the instructor can adjust the moves you do to meet the needs of your body. Her theories are method were certainly not cookie cutter. She said, “I train for the body that is in front of me. I offer modifications that make sense because no two bodies are the same. Why would I train them as if they were?” That made so much sense to me because I never felt like I was feeling the burn where I was supposed to in other classes.

I admit I was pretty nervous before I came to my first private Pilates session, but Kylene was incredibly nice and helpful. We started on the Balanced Body Reformer, which is a big Pilates machine that looks very intimidating. It has a carriage that you can lay, sit or stand on to complete exercises. Most of my exercises were down laying down and it was very low impact. However, I was sweating just as much as I did during a normal fitness class. The great thing was that I knew exactly what to do and Kylene told me when I needed to adjust my form and she lowered the resistance when I needed it. She studio is gorgeous. It’s a fully equipped Balanced Body studio. The studio has three reformers, two towers Balanced Body Cadillac and one Wunda Chair.

I really enjoyed our session and I left feeling stronger and taller. It was a full body workout and it was over much quicker than when I go to other fitness classes. This was a big change from the normal “I may die” feeling I usually felt after a gym session. The cool thing about Mindful Movements Pilates studio is that I can do group classes if I want, but the largest the group can be is three. The trio class offers the same benefits as a private session. Kylene can still tailor the approach and the class makes the call on what exercises to do. You do have to make your own equipment changes when you do a trio class, so everyone in the class has to do the private intro session with Kylene first. This is perfect because it ensures we are all going to be safe but it also lets you get more comfortable with the studio before you come to a “real” class. Privates Pilates lessons are for learning and small group reformer classes are for practicing what you learned.

So if you are like me and tired of living in the fitness jungle, check out Mindful Movement-Pilates studio. You will not feel overwhelmed or intimidated. You’ll get a great workout and a unique experience. I highly recommend it.

How to Get through the First Pilates Reformer Class like a PRO

When you find your way into a Pilates Reformer class as a Reformer virgin here are some tips to keep you alive.

  1. Show up 10-15 minutes prior to class starting and tell your instructor that you’ve never taken a Pilates Reformer class before. Politely ask that they keep a watchful eye on you.
  2. Always pay attention to the cues that your instructor is using during the class. Be focused on your body and your movement because this is the crucial mindful aspect of any Pilates class.
  3. Ask how the Reformer operates prior to a class. Most studios will require that you attend at least one introductory Private Pilates session to get comfortable with the Pilates Reformer and to learn the essential safety requirements.
  4. Wear toe socks. They will keep you from slipping on the the Reformer footbar.
  5. Bring water with a lid, a towel and a headband.
  6. Concentrate on your workout. Concentration is one of the principles of Pilates. During a Pilates class you will learn to be more aware of your body and move more efficiently. It’s important that you focus on your workout rather than talking to your neighbor or thinking about the next thing that you will do after a class.
  7. Clean up after yourself. Every Pilates studio provides environmentally safe cleaning supplies to clean up equipment after each use. Cleaning up is part of your class. The extra minute or two that it takes to clean up the equipment can be used to talk to other students in the class and discuss the session with them. It’s a great time to connect!
  8. TURN OFF YOUR CELL PHONE! There is nothing worse than someone disrupting the class to check their Facebook updates or send a text message. If it’s an urgent matter please let your instructor know and step outside to take care of the call or message.
  9. Listen to your body, take breaks when needed. Some of the students in your Pilates Reformer class can be more advanced than you are and they can be performing exercise modifications that you are not ready for. Focus on YOUR body and not on the people around you.
  10. Don’t forget to breathe! Actually, if you are listening to your instructor (as you should during a Pilates class) she will remind you to breathe during each exercise.
  11. HAVE FUN!
